Do you believe in luck for success?
The question came through Twitter from Darren Rowse, a big Australian blogger who has been a true inspiration.
No, I said in response. I do not believe in luck. .
You create our own “luck” with life’s circumstances by setting intention, making decisions and creating action. You bring about opportunities and get yourself poised for success of your own will and accord.
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. Lucius Annaeus Seneca
Reminder: You can still grab The Positive Affirmations for Life program with more than 4 hours of audio affirmations for 7 life situations that impact your happiness and success the most.
You get into a good situation and work your way out of a bad one with accountability and willingness to work through the good and the bad.
That’s how successful people get what we want. They do not call on luck to help them out. They create their own luck.
I have yet to meet a successful person who summons luck every time she sets a new goal for herself. It just doesn’t work that way, sweet love.
It’s your life and so you can define success however you like. Maybe success for you is a large sum of money, a peaceful home and family or a life of service and giving. Or a beautiful combination.
But there is no defining “luck” because it doesn’t exist. Good things happen at the meeting of opportunity and hard work, but you control both of those. So let go of your false beliefs.
8 Lies to Stop Telling Yourself Now
So the first lie is simple: You need luck to be successful.
Um. Sorry but you don’t.
Now go create your success but only after you have read below the other lies that sabotage your success every time.
Lie #1. You need luck on your side in order to be successful.
No, you don’t. There is no such thing as luck. You need intention and willingness. You need preparation and opportunity. All of this, you can create and achieve for yourself without the illusion of luck.
Lie #2. You need to be young to pursue your dreams.
There is no age limit for pursuing your dreams. The wisdom you gain over the years helps you pursue your dreams better, faster and smarter. Youth is overrated and the value of experience way under-rated.
Lie #3. You need others to help you because you can’t do it on your own.
There is a lot to learn and gain from supporters and mentors. And it pays to hang out with the right influencers and enjoy the right circle of friends. But you can absolutely do anything you set your mind to, with and sometimes without the support of others.
Lie #4. You need to sacrifice your whole life to achieve your goals.
That’s not true. You need to work hard at the beginning of every new pursuit but then it gets easier and better, and you get better at it too. Successful people have a life, hobbies, fun as well as a life of pursuits and accomplishments.
Lie #5. You need to compromise on your values to get where you want to go.
There is no need for this, and if you feel you need to do this, you are not seeing the whole picture. There is always a way to get to where you want to go with integrity and honesty. Never compromise on your core values.
Lie #6. You need a lot of money to create success and wealth in your life.
Pure rubbish. The best and brightest heroes of our time past and present rise from dirt and ashes. There is no pride in being poor, as J.K. Rowling says, but there’s also no need to be well-off in order to create success (the last part: my commentary).
Lie #7. You need to go the safe and known route to ensure you make it.
The safe route is one option in life, but it is not without its cost. You pay dearly by giving up on how much bigger and better it could have been and you take less risk and therefore find out less about you. There are other paths to success than those already walked by others. Dare to create your own.
Lie #8. You need to be realistic about the goals you set so you don’t get disappointed.
You create your own reality, honey, and so realistic for you could be obnoxiously ambitious for your best friend. So Be It. Don’t judge what others are doing with their lives and reserve the right not to let them judge you.
Think big.
Set big goals.
Create a big vision. Then wake up every day and go after it one single step after another.
Practical tip: I have made these guided audio affirmation tracks to help you with tapping into the inner truth and letting go of the lies easily. Give them a try! You’ll be in LOVE with the truth! And with yourself.
So learn to listen for these lies and notice where they show up. Then stand up to them by not believing a word. It’s all a lie, anyway. Nothing should come between you and your desires, if you want to pursue them in this one life.
So do you ever hear these lies in your head? Do you hear someone else casually whisper them in your ear or even imply them in conversation? Tell me your thoughts and any other lies I may have left out in the comments below.
