Ah relationships. The web that weaves and connects us to one another.

I’ve been focused on good and bad relationships at the workplace lately. See, I’ve put my heart and soul into helping and empowering desperate corporate employees who just don’t know what they are doing wrong at their jobs. 

Is that you by any chance? Because I was right there with you. Smart. Talented. Hard-working. A top performer. Alway smiling, being all pleasant and professional-looking, even when I didn’t feel like it. If you work at corporate, you know the drill.

You Simplify Life The Slower You Go

One of the most commonly used words in the Japanese language is isogashii. It translates to busy. Not hello. Not thank you. Not even love. But busy. And we are no different. When was the last time you said you were busy? Yesterday? An hour ago? Just now? 🙂

Can you keep up with everything you want to do or are you constantly – and literally – running (I have taken to running in my house on occasion so it’s not that crazy … or is it?) from this to that?

During one of my talks about entrepreneurship and moving away from corporate life when I was speaking to a group of women with corporate jobs, one topic brought a unanimous nodding in the room. I was surprised to see this strong reaction on a straight-forward and simple point on reasons to say no and to say it so well that it comes across as good as a yes!

After the talk, I stayed to talk to some of these women. One of them was a busy doctor, with kids and all the usual responsibilities. She was going to school to get her MBA and on top of this, she could not bring herself to say no to the various volunteer efforts her friends and community asked her to do.

Byron Katie says we can’t stop thinking about a stressful thought. We have to examine it, and get to the truth behind our stories, and then, and only then, when we no longer believe the thought, the thought lets go of us.

Such a pleasant thought to think of stressful thoughts letting go of us, no pun intended. In fact, I’ve tried to prove her wrong but I have yet to command a single thought of mine to do anything other than whatever it wants.
