Mindset Check to Bet On Yourself, Not Against Yourself

Start to Bet on Yourself and Be Your Own Cheerleader.

Start to bet on yourself.

Start to become your own cheerleader.

I want to talk to you about a topic today that when I first learned it in my own coaching experience I was a little surprised. My own coach called me out once when I was convincing her that I was not qualified for a particular client and she said to me “stop disqualifying yourself”.

I was disqualifying myself before the client had even made a decision. This is more common than you can imagine.

Let’s say you’re going for a job that’s bigger than one you’ve ever applied for, one that you may not fully qualify for on paper. Do you hear yourself say “oh they’re not going to pick me, oh there’s no way they’re going to ask me to join”.

Thats you disqualifying yourself well ahead of the process.

In fact you may not even apply because you may feel you’re not qualified.

Same if you’re in business. You may know that there are bigger things you want to do, that there are bigger clients you can serve and yet you are disqualifying yourself. You are making the decisions on their behalf.

Now let me ask you this: do you not know people who are in positions of power, authority, influence, leadership where they may not be fully qualified? Where they may not have all the credentials and all the qualifications to be there and yet there they are sitting in that seat comfortably and doing a reasonably good job?

They didn’t go around disqualifying themselves, they bet on their own success. They were their own cheerleader.

You’re doing all the hard work, I’m sure you are, so in the process make sure that you also act as your own cheerleader. Make sure that you choose to bet on yourself. Make sure that you approach any situation where you’re not sure by taking a curious approach.

You know what…I’m wondering if they might pick me? I bet I would do a really good job. I wonder if they would choose me as a candidate? I wonder if this client would like to work with me because I’m sure I can serve them well? That is not only an attractive approach it will serve you well.

So next time you’re going for something big remember don’t disqualify yourself.

Bet on yourself. Be your own cheerleader.
