Too many mornings, I chose email over mediation, I chose twitter time over introspection time. Too many nights, I collapsed into deep sleep without taking a moment to quiet the mind and reflect on the day. Too many days in 2010, I chose impulsively rather than consciously. The heart longed to make meditation a ritual, a habit, a permanent part of daily life and yet, the body and the stubborn mind won the negotiation game far too often. I love doing – prolific living is the essence of a productive, rich, and creative life. But doing does not complete us without the being. [Read more…] about A Manifesto for Meditation

Blogworld Series: The Inspiration in 76 Quotes
It is the standard definition of success when you set out goals to accomplish – and turn around to do just the same. For Blogworld 2010, I more than achieved all my goals, so fortunate was I to meet the perfect people who pushed me in the directions I meant to go before leaving the conference. Funny enough, a sense of Personal Success was shoved aside – it even became slightly irrelevant – when true winners showed up and in one quick minute, stole the spotlight and all my attention along with them. These winners were Inspiration, Community, and Knowledge. Inspiration from listening to the fantastic speakers, Community from being in the company of amazing bloggers and friends, and Knowledge from the educational sessions.
The next 3 posts are dedicated to all of you who made my first Blogworld so incredibly memorable and special, those of you who could not make it and were sorely missed, and to the rest of my beloved readers who – while having no interest in blogging – read Prolific Living for inspiration and tips to apply to their own lives. The Case for Micro Vacations: Quick Travels to Far Destinations
Micro vacations are one answer to experiencing the world on limited time and money!
We spent US Labor Day holiday in Switzerland. Before that, we spent President’s Day in London and in Thanksgiving, we will take off for a getaway to the historic city of Berlin. Our home base is the east coast of North America so these destination spots are not exactly a “hop”. Any country in Europe would be 6-8 hours flight from NYC.
Most everyone would immediately dismiss a European vacation more so for lack of time than lack of budget. Perhaps waiting until “someday” is a wise and well-thought-out strategy for some but it won’t do for a travel hungry soul like mine and perhaps, it won’t do for you either. If you share my dilemma, dispel the notions of excuses and adopt a new perspective when it comes to vacations.
Forget setting aside a small fortune and waiting years to find the right two or three week slot of earned vacation. Think instead small, dense, and compact. Think a micro vacation! [Read more…] about The Case for Micro Vacations: Quick Travels to Far Destinations
Alexandre Dumas: “The Count of Monte Cristo”
Dear Monsieur Dumas,
It is the year 2010 today, nearly 166 years since you published The Count of Monte Cristo. Your contemporaries recognized it as the accomplishment it is, which is the least we can say for the treasures which have come to us from your period. It makes me immensely happy when a society understands a genius masterpiece in all its brilliance during the lifetime of its creator. Still, you would probably like to know that The Count of Monte Cristo, your labor of love and sweat, is cherished and recognized as a magnificent novel in the world to this day. It is even part of the reading requirement in most school education programs, albeit they sadly choose the abridged version much to your (and my) dismay. Not knowing any better when I was much younger, I too read the abridged version, which even in its brevity, left an indelible mark on me and a desire for return for more someday. Making Tough Decisions: How to Break a Commitment Professionally
“We can do anything but we can’t do everything.”
I used to believe I can do everything! By everything I mean my growing list of passions and aspirations from which responsibilities and commitments are naturally born. By doing I mean doing well, extremely well. It is either a job well done or a job not done at all, as far as I am concerned because my reputation is on the line. A few weeks ago, I realized I live in my own happy bubble of wonderland where my days are endless, my time immeasurable and my body an infinite source of energy. Then I woke up and I had to make a very tough decision.
Wisdom tells us doing fewer things but doing each remarkably well will fare better in the end for us but how do we get out of the commitments that are already made? [Read more…] about Making Tough Decisions: How to Break a Commitment Professionally
