Knowledge alone cannot always help you move through your fears in life.
In fact, knowledge is precisely what we blatantly ignore whilst saying “I know, I know!” in response to the whole world around us. Sometimes, it takes more.
Forget knowledge then! Have you ever tried the power of your imagination, which, for all you know, could very well be true?
Let’s imagine together. Shall we?
Right now, somewhere in the world, a 6-year old skinny boy with glasses looked a 10-year old bully in the eye and said, “Go ahead! I am no longer afraid of you!” (in kiddie language of course).
Somewhere, a woman just overcame her abandonment issues in order to give her partner the chance he deserves and in another place, a man finally decided to commit to commitment by proposing to the love of his life (and no, I am not being sexist; these are just examples!).
Yet, somewhere else, a young girl embraced courage tighter than her Teddy bear before making a double flip in her gymnastics performance and a boy swallowed his fear in one big gulp in order to kick the football so perfectly in the goal that it almost felt surreal.
In another place, a 55-year old veteran of a giant corporation put an end to his sleepless nights, abandoned his serious anxieties around financial security and comfort and walked out on his boring, thankless, 30-year far-from-fulfilling career. He decided that it is not too late to pursue his dreams of teaching after all.
And in yet another place, a talented writer thought long and hard first before making herself walk away from the empty promises of several publishing houses for the single-minded pursuit of self-publishing her baby. Enough rejections already, thank you!
In one corner of the world, a baby elephant just decided to steer further into the open field and away from Mamma elephant in search of some water. She did this knowing full well the dormant cheetahs that could be hovering underneath her eye level. She decided to give in to fear and do it anyway.
And in another corner of this world, a proud Mamma bird just watched her babies crack open their shells with tiny beaks and get their first glimpse daylight. Then she mustered all the courage in her wings to tear herself away and leave her newborns alone so that she could bring them food and water.
Everyday…
…. a flower beautifully bursts open a tight bud only to breeze through a short, intense, and quick youth.
….a young worker overcomes her anxiety to give her first presentation to management.
….a school of fish swim right into the shark-fested waters to quest for food or pleasure.
….a traveler overcomes her big anxieties around leaving home to take on the road.
….a caterpillar does all the work for the butterfly to get all the glory.
…a complete beginner drops the fear of awkwardness in order to try meditation and mindfulness.
….a brave at heart walks out on status quo to get an inch or two closer to an idea, a vision, a dream.
….a dog births puppies and watches them grow up and grow old only to leave her behind.
….an orphan chooses hope and courage over fear that someday, she too will be adopted by a loving family.
…a dancer crushes her fears to go on stage to delight thousands with her movements to the music.
…an entrepreneur raises his rates to match his talent and the true value of what he offers the world.
In every corner of the world, a living being is taking a leap of faith into uncertainty and the unknown, crushing fears big and small, overcoming anxieties massive and debilitating, in order to taste the power of their real potential, to live to the rhythm of their own heart and to follow their real calling in life.
Everyday, miracles happen in abandonment of fear and embracing of courage.
There is no power greater than your own proof when you walk out on fear rather than let it walk all over you. If you have done it, bravo! If you have not, I am excited for what awaits you.
A Penny for Your Fearless Thoughts
What have you done to face your fears? What are you doing to crush them so that they do not crush your will to live?
How many times have you felt fear today and abandoned the mere feeling of it to rush to comfort and to take your seat next to the ordinary?
How many of your life’s happiest and most blissful experiences started out with nothing but a bucket of fear and anxiety?
How many of your fears will you allow to block your path to greatness?
